Dar es Salaam. A helicopter carrying Natural Resources and Tourism minister Hamisi Kigwangalla has just arrived at Mount Meru Hotel in Arusha from Magugu Village in Manyara. Dr Kigwangalla was injured after his vehicle overturned earlier today, Saturday August 4, at Magugu. He was heading to Dodoma from Arusha. Reports say he was injured in the chest, left arm and the neck will be rushed to KKKT Selian Hospital for treatment. Also, there are plans to airlift him to Muhimbili National Hospital. During the accident, the ministry’s information officer Hamza Temba died and four other people, including the minister, were injured. Manyara Regional Police Commander Agostino Senga said the vehicle had five people.

Dar es Salaam. Two people have been killed and 10 others injured in a road accident involving a Modern Coach bus plying between Dar es Salaam and Nairobi. Muhimbili National Hospital spokesman Aminieli Aligaesha said in a statement that the injured and bodies were received on Saturday, August 4 around 5.45am. Reports say that the accident occurred at Mbwewe in Bagamoyo District, Coast Region. “The bus had 45 people,” said Mr Aligaesha adding that the injured were doing well and the bodies have been preserved at the morgue.

President John Magufuli has sent his congratulatory remarks to Zimbabwe’s Emmerson Mnangagwa for winning the general election. Mr Mnangangwa of the ruling party ZANU-PF was declared winner on Friday August 3 by the Zimbabwe electoral commission. He got 50.8 per cent of the votes cast, against his closest challenger from, of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Alliance, Nelson Chamisa who got 44.3 per cent.  Dr Magufuli said on his Twitter account that ,Mnangagwa’s victory is a reflection of the confidence of the people of Zimbabwe in him. “Cde. Mnangagwa. On behalf of the Government and people of Tanzania, I convey my sincere congratulations on your victory in the Presidential Election of Zimbabwe. Your victory is a reflection of the confidence reposed in you by the people of Zimbabwe in leading them to prosperity,” read President Magufuli’s tweet on Friday.

The Miss Lake Zone pageantry is expected to take place August 4, in the city of Mwanza, even as a Toyota Passo vehicle set to be handed over to the winner of the beauty contest as the ultimate prize being rejected. The director of The Look Company that organises Miss Tanzania, Ms Basilla Mwanukuzi, has said they have written a letter to the National Arts Council of Tanzania (NACT), requesting the latter to swap the current prize with one that will match the status of the contest. “The reward is not in line with the status of the contest. I know they have been making efforts to give fabulous prizes, but to speak the truth we do not agree with this. We have tried to make several calls to them, but they are not responding. So, now we have written a letter, whose copy we have sent to NACT,” said Basilla. Dar es salaam vs Dodoma: What gave Dodoma City a boost in revenue earnings?

Dodoma. A rise in the sale of land around Dodoma city and administrative actions to seal loopholes for public funds embezzlement has been cited as reasons why the city has raised its income. The Dodoma City Council director Godwin Kunambi says there has been an influx of land buyers and other people seeking to settle in the areas. The influx may be attributed to the decision by the government to shift its base from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma, now the officials capital of Tanzania. Mr Kunambi recently won praise from President John Magufuli for attaining 93 per cent of Dodoma’s revenue targets for the last financial year. Statistics show that the council surpassed its revenue targets by 120 per cent, collecting Sh25.05 billion against a target of Sh20,79 billion during the year. Bank of Tanzania(BOT) take over Bank M.

Dar es Salaam....Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has taken over the administration of Bank M Tanzania Limited after the regulator realised that the commercial bank was facing serious liquidity problems. The takeover became effective on Thursday, August 02, 2018. “In the exercise of its powers, under Section 56 (1) (g) (iii) of the Banking and Financial Institutions Act, 2006, the Bank of Tanzania has, effective 2 August 2018, taken over the administration of Bank M Tanzania Plc (Bank M),” the BoT said in a statement. It states that the decision follows determination by the BoT that Bank M has critical liquidity problems and is unable to meet its maturing obligations. “Continuation of the bank’s operations in the current liquidity condition is detrimental to the interests of depositors and poses systematic risk to the stability of the financial system,” the statement reads. The BoT has accordingly appointed a Statutory Manager to manage the affairs of Bank M and suspend its Board of ...

POLICE in the country yesterday clarified that its sniffer dog which was reported missing at the Dar es Salaam Port, was on a special training at Oysterbay Officers’ Mess in Dar es Salaam. The Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Barnabas Mwakalukwa, said that there was no sniffer dog which was lost as reported by a cross section of the media.
