Prominent businessman Said Lugumi has reported to the Home Affairs headquarters in Dar es Salaam after Minister Kangi Lugola summoned him. The minister had recently ordered that Mr Said Lugumi be delivered to him by July 31. The Lugumi Enterprises owner is being accused of failing to implement a lucrative project to install electronic fingerprint machines at district police stations. The minister issued the new order as he addressed reporters at Dar es Salaam offices after concluding an 11-day tour of various departments under his docket on July 21, 2018. Mr Lugola said that one of the directives he received from President John Magufuli was to resolve the Lugumi scandal. Lugumi who reported at 7a.m this morning, was seen entering the board room together with other ministerial officials to meet with the Minister. Monduli Member of Parliament Julius Kalanga (Chadema) has defected to the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM). Mr Kalanga becomes the second legislator to decamp to from Chadema and join CCM in less than a week. Late last week, the Ukonga legislator, Mr Mwita Waitara, declared that he was stepping down from his post and joining the ruling CCM. The immediate former Monduli MP announced his decision on Monday midnight flanked by the CCM Secretary for Publicity and Ideology, Mr Humphrey Polepole. “Being an legislator is not a big deal for me; what matters for me is Monduli development…I want to see Monduli moving from where we are to the next level of development. I am ready to be a mere farmer if need be,” said Mr Kalanga. For his part, Mr Polepole said he would submit Mr Kalanga’s application to join the ruling party later. Mr Kalanga’s meeting with Mr Polepole was aired live through the latter’s social media accounts.

 Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) through its mandate as spelt out in section (12) (2) (a) (b) (c) of the Universities Act Cap 346 of the laws of Tanzania, read together with regulation 31 (2) (3) (4), coordinate the admission of student into Higher Learning Institutions (HLI) in Tanzania. Different from precious years, this 2018/2019 admission cycle, the Government directed TCU to take the coordination role of undergraduate degrees. Hence, the focus here is TCU to ensure quality of entry qualifications of the applicants who are admitted into HLIs in Tanzania. Following the government directive, this 2018/19 academic year Applicants will channel their applications directly to individual Institutions. Higher Learning Institutions (HLIs) will directly receive and process applications and admit students into their institutions. The killers of AKWILINI may never be known after all.

From Dar es salaam:The killers of 21 year old university student, Akwilina Akwilini, may never be known after all, with the police confirming today there was no active investigation ongoing over the murder. The National Institute of Transport (NIT) student was killed in February this year by a stray bullet fired during a confrontation between the police and opposition party supporters. The bullet shuttered her head as she sat in a commuter van on her way home from college. The police said today that armed officers involved in the confrontation have since been absolved and discharged after being held briefly. The director of public prosecutions earlier announced the file closed. Asked today about the matter and whether justice will be seen to have been done for the victim, the Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone Commander Lazaro Mambosasa said there was no evidence to charge the police officers.
